About Edinburgh Concert Band

Edinburgh Concert Band (ECB) was founded in 1988 with the aim of providing an opportunity for community musicians, school leavers and the student population to come together to make music. While the band consistently performs to a high level, the ethos is focused on being inclusive and welcoming. Today ECB is a true community band, with over 60 members aged 18 upwards and from all walks of life, performing and enjoying a wide range of music across the concert band repertoire.

The band undertakes a number of varied engagements each season, with a strong commitment to community and charity events. Regular concerts include a Summer Concert, Christmas Concert and the popular Children’s Concert.  Recent highlights for the band include the commission of an original work composed for the band by Callum Hüseyin, a composer and conductor based in Edinburgh. Read more about this in our NEWS section. ECB has previously commissioned original pieces of music from the renowned Jazz Composer and Educator Richard Michael (2013), and Gaynor Baradell through Making Music's 'Adopt a Composer' programme in 2017-18, resulting in the piece ‘Step Up!’ which premiered in June 2018 and was played on BBC Radio 3 in January 2019.
